Passive map + active RF · on-device · no network
DEFLOCKHUD
A glanceable heads-up display for your car that warns you the moment you're near a Flock Safety ALPR camera.
Two ways to use it
Works with or without hardware.
Run it as a pure map-based proximity warner using only your phone's GPS, or add a small USB scanner for live radio detection. Either way: no root, no accounts, no internet.
Passive
No hardwareShips with an offline map of known ALPR camera locations. Using only your GPS, it shows how far away mapped cameras are and points directional arrows at them as you drive.
Needs: nothing — the camera map is built in.
Active
+ ESP32 scannerPlug a compatible ESP32 USB scanner running the flock-you firmware into your head unit. DeflockHUD then detects cameras live by their wireless signature — including ones not yet on any map — with a loud, high-contrast alert.
Needs: a USB-host device + an ESP32 scanner.
Compatibility
Bring your own ESP32.
Active detection works with common ESP32 scanner boards over USB — native USB or through a standard UART bridge. The app auto-detects the chip at 115200 baud and applies per-board signal calibration.
Scanner boards
USB · 115200- Native USB — ESP32-S2 / S3 / C3 / C6 (CDC-ACM)
- UART bridge — CP2102 · CH340 / CH9102 · FTDI FT232 · Prolific PL2303
- Anything else — generic 115200 serial fallback
Recommended: ESP32-S3 — native USB + Wi-Fi/BLE.
Runs on
Android 8.0+- Verified on the ATOTO S8 Ultra Android head unit
- Head units, phones, tablets — Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer
- Active RF needs a USB-host (OTG) port; passive map needs only GPS
No root — plug in over USB-OTG and the app auto-connects.
Privacy is the product
Your drive never leaves your device.
DeflockHUD is a passive receiver. It listens for public radio beacons broadcast by fixed cameras — it does not track people, does not transmit, and does not phone home.
- No internet permission — the app is technically incapable of transmitting your data.
- No accounts, no ads — no analytics, no third-party SDKs.
- On-device storage — logs live in the app's private storage only.
- Screen-capture blocked — your live location can't be screenshotted or recorded.
- You control export — data leaves only when you choose to share a CSV/KML.
- Open about scope — full detail in the privacy policy.
